“We wanted it to be the ANTI-IT BAG.  That was the concept.  That was the whole point.  We wanted it to be really anonymous.” - Lazaro Hernandez & Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler

While ‘IT’ bags seem to be every where these days, the Proenza Schouler’s PS1 bag, that debuted in Fall 2008, has really taken on a life of its own.  The PS1 bag is a favorite amongst celebrities like Chloe Sevigny, Mary Kate Olsen, Dakota Fanning, & Leighton Meester (all pictured above with the PS1 bag) AND of course fashionistas everywhere.  But what makes the bag so covetable is its effortless, nonchalant, yet still totally luxe and bad ass look.  As the Parsons grads (whoop whoop my alma mater!) stated they created this bag as a downtown (think effortless) addition to any outfit.  They wanted it to be timeless, to transcend the ‘IT-ness’ of seasonal runway shows.

AND to prove the creative genius of these 2 designers, they were just awarded the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year!

The PS1 bag and wallets (pictured above) are not named after the designers (side note: Proenza Schouler is named after the 2 designers’ mothers’ maiden names), but after the New York public school system.  The bag is reminiscent of a schoolboy bag with a more minimalist and sophisticated edge.
