Day One of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week started with a bang! But I wouldn’t expect anything less from the fashionable city that never sleeps! Gearing up for a day of presentations I opted to wear my vintage ‘pomme’ tee, Michael Kors gray trousers, Zara black suede platforms, vintage beaded belt, vintage black oversize clutch, and vintage fur coat.
And so it begins…with CFDA winner and Southern man, BILLY REID..
The Florence, Alabama based designer recently won the coveted Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) award. His fashion week presentation was a true old South experience made complete with Dogfish Head beer, and a set that looked straight out of an antebellum mansion.
Billy Reid’s women’s wear usually looks too ‘men’s wear’ for me but he really impressed me this season! His Fall 2011 women’s wear pieces looked ultra femme yet still evoked that Billy Reid classic meets rugged look.
Trend Alert: LOTS of sheerness (aka lingerie inspired) pieces rocked the runways & showrooms for fall 2011.
I think it looks so classic and cool to pair a sweater –like a shawl collar or double breast-with a pair of cords or trousers.
Again layers under a jacket add interest to a guy’s look without taking away from his ‘masculinity’. Also, Im a major advocate of the cuffed jean and pant!
Trend Alert: Notice the kitten heels paired with the women’s wear looks. They are a great alternative to a ballet flat or pump for both work, events, or casually paired with skinny jeans.
And then there was Illesteva….
The designers of the trendy glasses line were inspired by music thus bringing in the NYU orchestra to sport their shades while playing beautiful tunes. And you gotta love the butlers standing around the room ‘serving’ colorful shades!
And for one of my favorites, Suno…
SUNO began when Max Osterweis wanted to share his love for Kenyan fabrics, prints, & design techniques, and to not only display their beautiful designs but to also bring commerce to Kenya. The line is named after his mother who has a home in the African state. Let me tell y’all the collection was divine, so lush, rich, exotic…I wanted every single piece!
Trend Alert: Platforms are here once again ladies! 70’s style reigns strong this spring & into fall. These printed platforms are by Loeffler Randall for SUNO.
Two of my favorite looks. Isn’t the styling by Brian Malloy divine?? The layering of various prints, colors, & styles is so on trend & is a must do this spring!
Trend Alert: Long lengths ladies! Make sure to add a long skirt or dress to your wardrobe this spring!
Onto another Southern favorite–Wes Gordon…
Where to even begin…I literally cannot express all of the reasons why I love Atlanta born & raised designer Wes Gordon. His presentation at the St. Regis Hotel was drop dead divine. Luminous fabrics, feminine fitted styles, & true ‘Old South Elegance’.
The PERFECT cocktail dress for any event.
Again with the ‘70s styles for Fall 2011…high waisted flared leg trousers, yes please!
The insanely talented Wes Gordon…my Southern Femmes he is one to watch & snatch up pieces now!
And for the Southern Hommes, Number: Lab…
The NYC based men’s wear sportswear line is perfect for the active guy that wants to upgrade his everyday look.
Trend Alert: Pops of neon against shades of gray look current and effortless.
Designer Luis Fernandez thanking the crowd!
