Mary Lynn in Mexico

Who: Mary Lyn

Where: Mexico City aka el d.f. (that is, the distrito federal as they call Mexico City, for short).  Here Mary Lyn is in the Galeria OMR on the Plaza Rio de Janeiro, where she enjoyed important works by young Mexican artists.

What she’s wearin’: Mary Lyn’s perfect traveling outfit consists of a casual yet chic black sheath dress from Harold’s cinched with a brown belt by Michael Kors accented with a scarf by Loro Piano, a red purse by Kenneth Cole & sunglasses by Nicole Miller.

Why: Mary Lyn dished to me the trends of Mexico City saying, “My friends told me beforehand that in the city, no one wears skirts. I found that hard to believe, but I did find that very, very few women under the age of seventy were wearing skirts. The necessities of moving through the streets of this very large (geographically) city – uneven pavement, using public transportation, and the rainy, cool-at– times climate make skirts an impractical choice. Their fashion energy goes into how to be chicly comfortable– great accessories, and great interpretations of the classic tunic– Mexican, but very modern”.  While Mary Lyn opted for a dress she still epitomizes great city style made stronger with her statement accessories (this fall it’s ALL about the statement pieces)!  Overall, she looks fabulous & pulled together while still being comfortable!

Leather belts

My personal favorite picture Mary Lyn took of handmade Mexican leather belts with hand-tooled serpents and encrusted gemstones.  Worn at the natural waist over a flowy or fitted dress is very on trend!
