As I turned the corner towards 54th Street & 5th Avenue this morning I was expecting a line down the street to get into the Gap store to meet CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund designers Alexander Wang, as well as Lisa Mayock & Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava. I was shocked & personally thrilled to see an only semi-full store and no line, thus allowing me the opportunity to take pictures & a chance to meet the designers! After circling around the collections all inspired by the classic Gap khaki, I nervously approached Alexander Wang (he is one of my FAVORITE up & coming designers). To my amazement he was sooooooo friendly!! He immediately stuck out his hand & said “Hi! I’m Alex. So nice to meet you, thanks for coming!”. We then proceeded to chat for a few minutes about his inspiration for his limited edition collection for Gap. He dished that he wanted to keep with the classic look of Gap while adding in his own more urban/street style. His own line Alexander Wang that sells at Barneys & Opening Ceremony won him the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear last night! What a great start to a rainy Tuesday in NYC!!!
